- "Tankards for Tuckwell" - Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Beer Festival (5/6 October)
Friday 5 – Saturday 6 October 2018
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice will be holding a Beer Festival on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of October at the Empire, Aldershot.
This is the second year of this event and last year was a great success with an income of over £10,000.
This year’s event will be of a similar format with three sessions:
Friday 7pm – 11pm
Saturday 12pm – 4pm and 7pm – 11pm
They will be serving over 60 local beers and ciders, and there will be food on offer and live music during each session.
In case you need some background, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care are the only provider of hospice care in West Surrey and North East Hants.
They look after 250 patients, families and carers every day either at the hospice in Farnham, the Beacon centre in Guildford or in people’s homes.
It costs around £10 million a year to provide such care, of which, only 20% comes from the NHS meaning they need to raise over £20,000 a day!
SO - every pint helps!
Tickets for the event are available through their website...
or at their shop on Union Street in Aldershot and are priced at £10 per session.
They are happy to offer CAMRA members a free pint on production of proof of membership.
- Selborne Zig Zag Festival 2016 (5/6 October 2018)
Friday 5 – Saturday 6 October 2018
Selborne will be holding their usual Zig Zag Festival on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October 2018.
There will be three sessions, spread over the two days.
This is held in the Village Hall, Selborne and the Selborne Arms, but it's best that you "start" at the Village Hall.
Here you present your advance ticket (or buy a ticket on the door) - you will be issued with a festival glass, a guide and have your hand stamped.
This will give you entry to the village hall for both days and let you buy tokens which can be exchanged for beer at all venues, wine at the village hall and select wines at the pubs.
Ticket prices for all sessions are now a flat £10 whether purchased in advance or on the door, and they will be on sale from September at the Selborne Arms and the Selborne Village Stores.
Full details including the music line-up and beers can be found at...
...especially the "ABOUT" tab.

Red Cat brewery, Winchester
The Red Cat brewery, Winchester is holding an open day on Saturday 20 October 2018.
Red Cat is Winchester's newest brewery, and there's a chance to meet the brewers and drink some beer from 11:00 to 17:00.

Brewery address: Unit 10 Sun Valley Business Park, Winnall Close, Winchester, SO23 0LB
Their website: https://www.redcatbrewing.co.uk/blog/october-18-open-day
To get there from Alton, you can...
EITHER get the 64 to Winchester bus station and then get the no 1 bus to Tesco's at Winnal - get off at "Winnal Close" (near to the PO Sorting Office) and walk right down to the end of Winnal Close road/industrial area - 'Red Cat' are over in the far corner.
OR get off the 64 at the Golden Lion (top of the hill at Winnal Manor Road), and walk - only 15mins.
** NOTE ** I have been caught out by no 1 buses not running back from Tesco's, and have found out that the last bus on any day from Tesco's is at 1516!
So after then, I suggest you walk back either to Imber Road/Shephard's Road and get the bus from there, or right back to the Golden Lion and catch the 64 back from there..
