Previously the Jolly Farmer, after being purchased by pub operators Brunning & Price, the Barn Owl reopened at 5pm on 27 November 2025 with two regular and four changing cask ales plus a real cider. This sprawling pub is divided into a number of separate drinking and dining areas leading off the main bar with its impressive fireplace. With no TV or intrusive gaming machines the prevailing atmosphere is conversation and soft background music. The pub is a mile and a half from Bentley Station. Also the 206 bus service operates Tuesdays and Fridays only with latest stop on the circular route out of Alton at 13.13 and is best used as a drop-off point for enjoyment of the pub prior to a linear walk.
